Calcium silicon core wire, commonly referred to as CaSi core wire, is an important material used in the steelmaking and foundry industries. It is a type of cored wire containing a powder mixture of calcium and silicon inside a steel sheath. The usage of Calcium Silicon Core Wire (CaSi core wire) in the steelmaking process is integral to achieving high-quality steel with improved mechanical and chemical properties. Here’s how it is typically used:

1、Preparation:

The CaSi core wire is prepared with a precise mixture of calcium and silicon powder encapsulated in a steel sheath. The composition and diameter of the wire are chosen based on the specific requirements of the steel being produced.

2、Feeding:

The core wire is fed into the molten steel using wire feeding equipment. This equipment ensures that the wire is introduced at a controlled rate and at the correct location within the ladle or furnace.

3、Reaction:

As the wire melts, the calcium and silicon react with the molten steel. Calcium reacts with oxygen and sulfur, forming calcium oxide (CaO) and calcium sulfide (CaS), which float to the surface and are removed as slag. Silicon also acts as a deoxidizer, forming silicon dioxide (SiO2) which further helps in refining the steel.

4、Inclusion Modification:

Calcium modifies the shape and distribution of non-metallic inclusions. This is important for improving the steel’s mechanical properties and machinability. The inclusions become more globular, which is less harmful compared to elongated or irregularly shaped inclusions.

In summary, the use of calcium silicon core wire in steelmaking and foundry applications is essential for producing high-quality steel and cast iron with improved properties, while also enhancing operational efficiency and reducing costs.
